Night Sailing in Mexico

It’s my first overnight solo sail. It’s a little after 6pm, the sun just set and the wind is holding 15-20 knots, dead downwind. I’m making 4.5 - 5 knots over ground with just the jib up. The forecast says the wind should hold thru the night. If it does, I’ll end up at Isla de San Martín before sunrise, so I might have to slow down once I get closer. There’s one other boat in sight, a large fishing boat a few miles off my starboard beam.

Rick and Cynthia on Catspaw are several miles in front of me. We spoke over the VHF radio right before sunset. Sounds like they’re having a beautiful sail as well.

I’ll make some dinner shortly. Probably a can of veggie chili that Suzanne left on my boat after our sail to Ensenada from San Diego.
